A treatment for a rare genetic disease that calcifies the arteries ?

Researchers have identified the genetic deficiency that causes the rare disease called arterial calcification (arteriosclerosis) and elucidated the mechanism.

An animal model of this disease was recently created in mice by injecting stem cells obtained for the skin cells of patients. As the mechanism behind the calcification is uncovered, researchers have been able to test on this model, drugs used in bon calcification disorders and managed to treat the disease in humans partly. Treatment of this rare genetic arteriosclerosis can now be considered in humans.
