Tissue regeneration factors in zebrafish are present in mammals

The Institute of Technology in Tokyo has studied, from a purely molecular angle, the regeneration power of amphibian and fish tissues. The zebrafish, well renowned animal model, has allowed the identification of specific molecule and signalling mechanisms involved in tissue regeneration. The two key molecules Fgf20 and FGF3, are present in all vertebrate species. This discovery paves the way to better understanding tissue regeneration in mammals and humans.
