Therapeutic use of stem cells developed in dogs

Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are used in medicine for their ability to transform into different cell types and stimulate the surrounding tissues. These properties are increasingly used in dogs by veterinarians.

MSCs can come from the bone marrow but it is simpler to get them from the adipose tissue of the animal. Moreover, a study has recently shown that in dogs, MSCs of adipose tissue have the same capacities as those in the bone marrow, and are easier to isolate and proliferate more easily. These results will help the development of this therapeutic field for dogs.
