Solving histocompatibility problems in bone marrow transplants

Researchers have succeeded in creating in the lab totipotent hematopoietic cells, stem cells capable of producing all types of blood cells indefinitely, from blood vessel cells.

They showed in mice that transplanting these cells causes the appearance of hematopoietic stem cells capable of producing all types of blood cells.

This discovery, if confirmed in humans, could solve the histocompatibility problems encountered in bone marrow transplants.
