A parliamentary report on biotechnology

The Parliamentary Office for the Evaluation of Scientific and Technological Choices (OPECST) issued, end of March, a report entitled "The economic, environmental, health and ethical challenges of biotechnologies in the light of new avenues of research".
This comprehensive report explains why biotechnologies have undergone a revolution with the invention of genome-editing techniques such as CRISPR-Cas9 and that they generate great hopes in medicine. These techniques are used in animal research for the study of human biology and diseases.
The OPECST makes recommendations in response to questions they raise in the medical field and also in the agricultural field.
