A new pathway to prevent cancers, tested in mice

Only part of our 20,000 genes are active in a cell at a given time, part of our DNA activates the genes according to our needs.

Researchers looked into in a region of DNA linked to several cancers (prostate, breast, colon) that exists in mice and humans. They suppressed this region in mice and found that animals were much less susceptible to several types of cancers and that their health was not impaired. These results encourage researchers to discover substances capable of having the same effect in humans to prevent or treat cancers.
