MicroRNAs: fertility controllers
The Jean-Pierre Aubert Center in Lille indentified in mice the new players in the control of fertility: microRNAs. Researchers showed that a faulty action of these molecules can disrupt or inhibit the production of gonadotropin, the hormone that regulates sexual maturation, the onset of puberty and fertility in adulthood, thus possibly rendering subjects sterile.
