Health: Is your microbiota well suited to your diet?

Diets don’t affect people the same way. Genetic variability is of course involved, but the role of the intestinal microbiota is now being studied.

A study in mice that differed only in microbiota showed that substances produced by different microbiota influence the metabolism, behaviour and health of animals. One of these substances, the TMAO, showed a favourable impact on the control of blood glucose and insulin secretion.

An ongoing clinical study on the lifestyle, diet, health and microbiota of two-thousand patients will help consolidate these results.
