Gene therapy for blindness: How much progress ?

Several techniques that use the injection of genes (gene therapy) in the retina are currently being studied to fight against various forms of blindness. Science & Avenir provide an update on the work of the French company Gensight. A clinical trial is underway to treat Leber optic neuropathy thanks to the injection of the HD4 gene. Another project is aiming to infect the gene of a light-sensitive protein to replace lost AMD photoreceptors. Tests in animals are ongoing.
