EURATRANS: the study of rat helps human genetics progress

The study of isolated genes doesn’t allow us to know the origins of inflammatory, metabolic, behavioural and cardiovascular human diseases. Studies that integrate the entire genome (genomic studies) are needed to understand the major gene pathways involved. Only a living organism close enough to humans can make those studies happen. The rat was the one chosen for the job. On this basis, the European project EURATRANS created many lines of transgenic rats and published numerous scientific results.
