An effective chikungunya vaccine in monkeys and mice

To create a vaccine to fight the chikungunya virus, researchers have used an insect virus (without the capacity to replicate in mammals, therefore supposedly safe for humans) modified to resemble the chikungunya virus on the outside.

A single injection of the vaccine induced a strong immunological protection without side effects in mice and monkey models for chikungunya. This method, if validated in humans, can be applied to other viral diseases.
