Earlier diagnosis of retinal damage

Researchers have developed new retinal imaging tools. They will allow the diagnosis of an attack of the retina before any visual disorders appear with an ophthalmologic examination, and will make it possible to initiate early management of AMD or glaucoma. A recently published new technology makes it possible to visualize the cones and ganglion cells of the retina in humans and animals. Primate and rodent animal models were indispensable for this development. Tests on patients will still have to be carried out before this technique is present in every ophthalmologic clinic.
