Diabetes: news on healing

Diabetes disrupts healing, sometimes to the point of causing ulcers that heal difficultly. Diabetes is associated with a disturbance in insulin metabolism in the body. And this metabolism is highly conserved in animals, from flies to mammals, including humans, and thus, researchers have looked at flies to solve these healing problems. They found that the first healing steps of a small wound (formation of a filament that closes the wound) were slowed or inhibited in diabetes. The researchers are now working with dermatologists to try to take advantage of this discovery for diabetes patients.
