Creating memories
Researchers have artificially created a new geographical memory in a sleeping mouse by stimulating these cells with a brain-machine interface. This study confirms the role of the hippocampus in the functioning of the internal GPS of the brain – a discovery that received the 2014 Nobel Prize of Medicine. This work could have important implications for neurodegenerative diseases that affect memory, such as Alzheimer’s.
