Cold to protect the brain

Cold (33 to 36°c) is the best brain neuroprotector in cases of stroke, brain trauma or cardiac arrest. It slows down cell death and reduces inflammatory reactions. Researchers have developed the first drug, easy to administer, capable of inducing a protective hypothermia – the only one that can cross the blood-brain barrier to reach the brain. Animal tests were very successful and human trials should begin soon.
