Better than morphine

Morphine and its derivatives are the most potent pain relievers. Unfortunately, their use induces side effects (respiratory distress, drowsiness, constipation). These are aggravated by the need to increase the dosage of these drugs over time in case of prolonged treatment.

French researchers (Gustave Roussy, Pasteur Institute, Inserm, Paris-Sud, APHP) have just validated in rats two substances (opiorphine and STR-324) that have analgesic properties resembling those of morphine, but don’t have its side effects. The first human trials are to begin towards the end of 2017.
