Benzodiazepines and the risk for dementia

Benzodiazepines with a long half-life ( that disappear from the body after more than 20 hours) increase by 60% the risk of dementia, according to a new INSERM study. However, the study doesn’t analyse the mechanisms underlying this association. “This should be the subject of pathophysiological studies, imaging studies and studies on animal models,” say the researchers.
