AIDS research at the Pasteur Institute

Discovered in 1983 at the Pasteur Institute, the AIDS virus still infects 2 million people each year worldwide, including 6,000 in France. Tritherapy is very effective, but only a vaccine can stop the epidemic.
That is why the Pasteur Institute maintains very active research based on epidemiological, clinical and laboratory data (computer modeling, cell and tissue cultures, murine and simian animal models). Primate models are irreplaceable for testing vaccines. At the institute a vaccine combined with the measles virus is being tested at the moment.
